Undine
Original Art by Kring Demetrio
A portrait of a sea maiden looking afar longingly.
This is a loose reimagining of the sea witch in her youth, a character from “The Little Mermaid” by Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen.
This piece is drawn on two layers of felt-marked paper; an arch-shaped top layer with ink-drawn flourishes sits on the base layer with the main portrait.

About the Artist
Kring Demetrio
Currently based in Cebu City, Philippines, Kring’s passion for visual storytelling began with her early fascination for her grand-uncle's folkloric museum in Cagayan de Oro City. It housed her father's archaeological finds and exhibited surrealist, historical, and fantastical paintings by local artists which continue to deeply inform her work.
She creates interior and cover illustrations for books, magazines, and similar visual media that evoke a sense of eerie intrigue and sometimes macabre. Her constant aspiration is to portray themes of Philippine culture, pre-colonial folklore, world mythology, and her own queer experiences within her images.
